A beautiful rich shade of blue. My eye has always been attracted to blue ever since I was a kid. There is something so cooling and electric about it, yet calming and peaceful. Did you know the Egyptians were the only ones who knew how to make the colour blue from a semi precious stone? Then later used to make ultramarine blue, the most sought after and expensive pigments. Inspired by the colours of the male Mazarine blue butterfly.

When I was in my early twenties I was wild, foolish, and took lots of risks. Some paid off and others not so much. End even though, I don’t take as many risks, I try and keep this fire inside me alive because I believe life is too short to play it safe. I choose to set my soul on fire, i choose to be fearless and life life boldly without regret. Love more, dream more, aspire to be more. There is a fire in all of us, all you need is a match to light it.

Sometimes when we are swept up in the business of life we forget to enjoy the beauty around us. When I need a moment I always turn to the sea for serenity. I imagine the world going on underneath the water and wonder if it’s as busy as mine. With every passing tide my mind becomes restored again.

There is something totally mesmerizing about a fire. They are a symbol of power and momentum. In fact, there are few things in nature as mighty as the white-hot intensity of a fire. It’s a source of energy that requires moderation or you WILL get burned. It may ignite with joy or anger, or offer life giving light and heat or destruction.

I love the resplendent colours underwater when light shines through. Hard to capture is true beauty. I’m always entranced by the silence, shadow, bubbles, soft lights and the sparkle of the sunbeams. As I was this I realized that in nature light creates colour but in painting, colour creates light.

When I was a kid I loved the luminescence of phyto plankton. Tossing a pebble into the sea and watching it all light up. Truly natures's art. Luciferas is the enzyme that produces bioluminescence.

Every summer across the vast Okanagan, you can see fires for miles. Beautiful and frightening at the same time, it’s hard to take your eyes away from this annual ritual. It reminds us of our fragility and how little we can do sometimes to curtail the inevitable. It is odd to think that something so destructive can contribute to such a glorious view.

There is an opportunity to find a deeper strength within ourselves when life seems most challenging. Stand strong in the eye of the tornado, walk through the fire and make way in your life for something far greater.

The network of brilliant lines, a blaze of neon filled with palpable excitement. I moved away once and regretted it almost immediately. But because of this experience, I will never take for granted what we have here. After a long day, I climb to my rooftop and find peace again as the sunlight casts its spell upon the city.

I’ve always been drawn to the ocean and the power it has to calm and energize you all at once. They say that standing next to a waterfall will refresh you and enhance your mood. This is because of negative ions which stimulate alpha brain waves which elevate your awareness levels. You might find over 100,000 negative ions in a single body of water.

The millions of sparkling lights and the veil of nighttime really make Vancouver cityscape so magnificent, especially in the reflection of its night’s waters. It makes everything askew, disoriented and even magical.  Still waters reflect the beauty around it. When the mind is still, the beauty of the self is reflected in it.

White ice that forms when droplets of water from fog freeze to the surface. Looking through the window one frosty day I noticed the sun shining through the ice forming and making beautiful colours.  I was inspired.

Growing up my neighbour, Mrs. Gill, had the most amazing garden. So amazing I had to have it for myself. One day I climbed over the fence snipped off all of her tulips and hid them in my room. When my parents found them I blamed it on my sister. To this day, I still feel bad about it but I will never forget the beauty of Mrs. Gill’s flowers, which led me to my first criminal act.

A state of being pleasantly lost in one’s dream. The state of reverie is often where I find my inspiration. It takes me to an unimaginable place and shows me something I never see. Take a break and join me in reverie.

Have you ever been under water and noticed how blissfully quiet it is? When I was a kid I fell into a pool not knowing how to swim. I was surprisingly unafraid and embraced the peace and beauty. Looking up, beautiful rays of light poured over me and the warmth of the sun made me feel safe. Don't worry, seconds later my dad jumped in and pulled me out.

That blurry moment when you become aware you are dreaming and take control of the dream. This is lucidity. Do you remember as a child this was so challenging? I had such problems with nightmares and running to my parents room to be consoled. My mom told me I would one day be able to direct my own dreams. I still find it hard but when I do it’s magic to be able to strong hold it into an adventure. Much like my life….. Sometimes I get caught up in it and forget to stand back and realize what is actually going on.

You know its fall when that first gust of wind barrels through the trees and the sunlight hits the leaves making them just glow. If you look very carefully these leaves actually do glow with a little gold leaf.
