Once again, I’ve been invited to the beautiful offices of Hollyburn Eye Clinic. Their endless wallspace really showcases the size and grandeur of my colourful art world. In life there are many challenges. Some push and drive us to test our inner strength and fortitude.
How we each decide to answer their call shapes us who we are and who we will become.
In all of us, resides the mental strength to over come them with triumph and grace. Like the elements in nature copper, silver and gold they shine differently through each experience we have. Metals are formed over long periods of time under immense heat and pressure. Like metal, we emerge from the endurance of withstanding these challenges a new version of ourselves.
I've met some courageous, resilient strong people who have inspired me in so many ways, who have been struck down by more than just a bad day. Facing mental illness, physical disabilities, racism, physical transformations, and so much more. These people have been transformed like precious metals by their experiences in life.
I am compelled to share with you these beautiful tales of people who have done more than just rise to the occasion, they transformed like the elements. They have chosen to be empowered and courageous.
Their stories told through the power of abstract art will inspire you to have the strength of metal. Magnetic, malleable, electric and brilliant you will find these stories presented through me onto canvas. My hope for you is to feel inspired and to choose the impossible, to be great, to be UNBREAKABLE.

I wish I could tell you it’s going to be ok, that life will bring you everything you want. But it won’t be easy and parts will be very hard. In the hard you will sow the fabric of who you become. So, make lots of mistakes, fall down, break the rules and live in the courage of being yourself.
You’ll doubt what you know, along the way but follow your natural instincts. Trust in yourself. There will be many who are telling you that you are going the wrong way, when simply it is a way of your own. When you feel impatient, unloved, or insecure, lean into it and use it to express your deepest emotions. Be brave and don’t be afraid to living in your vulnerabilities. You will be stronger because of your mistakes, happier because of you endured the sadness, and wiser because you asked the hard questions.
I want to protect, shield you from the hard, the hurt and the pain but that would rob you of who you will become and steal the gratitude you will feel in the future.
Instead I leave you the uncertain journey while be it, bumpy, and challenging at times; it will also bring you much joy if you choose the positive state of mind. Make each moment count. Enjoy the journey……

In honour of The Nature Trust of British Columbia’s 50th Anniversary, and the Federation of Canadian Artists’ 80th Anniversary year is collaborating to award The Nature Trust of British Columbia Artist of the Year. Now if I could entice you to join me in a fascinating mind-spirit exercise. Close your eyes and take a deep breath while I take you to a place of comfortable isolation. In your mind’s eye, picture the sea. What comes to mind for you? Is the water alive with an alluring and completely inviting sensation of colour, maybe a vivid green and blue as in the South seas or is it perhaps a more subdued but powerful grey green palette of the Pacific Northwest? Can you feel the water rushing over your skin? And what about the wind in your face and the aroma of the sea air? Now you start to float, the ocean salt water is keeping you buoyant on the surface. Take a few moments to be at peace, emptying your mind of all else except the vastness and depth of the ocean. Now open your eyes and enjoy the world of peace and tranquility as seen through the mind of the spirit itself, your spirit, your mind, yourself. It is my hope and desire that my paintings will take you to an enchanting place by allowing you to connect to your inner soul and escape to the beauty of the ocean. I promise if you take a few moments to open your mind and allow yourself to “be” with the painting, I will take you there.
